With a population of only 11,500 people, Bridgeton is small, but important, as it serves as one of the primary transportation hubs in the Greater St. Louis area. The city is home to parts of the Lambert-St. Louis Airport, multiple railroad and interstate connections and metro rail. The city’s history for transportation dates back to American Indians using trails through the area, which prompted the French to settle there around 1724, and by the time of the Louisiana Purchase, it was already home to a thriving Spanish population. While small, and most schools in the district are outside of the city, Bridgeton is home to multiple international airline headquarters including Trans State Airlines and GoJet Airlines, and a library Bridgeton is located in Northwestern St. Louis county. Portions of the Lambert International airport are located in Bridgeton. It is part of the Pattonville school district.
